how to record labor hours spent on a project
Hi all, I would like to record the hours employees spend on various internal projects as well as holidays, sick time, etc., so that I can get a big picture for where the time has gone. Is it possible to do some or all of this in WebERP? How?
Thanks,
Dale

RE: how to record labor hours spent on a project
(re-opened to move discussion on project management from "Sales Process - Purchase Flow" forum thread ).
Hi @phil, I had understood from the discussion on the mail list that a strategy using manufacturing workorders for projects might be viable, as would a strategy based on using contracts. I intend to work through the manufacturing strategy, after working through the manufacturing process for a real assembly. Do you have any new thoughts on this?
The updated draft tutorial has a new URL http://www.dalescott.net/managing-projects-using-weberp/.

@phil, was your comment about the lack of project management functionality directed at the "project management" bullet in my reply to the OP? My intention is to use existing functionality only as a baseline for what can be achieved without adding any new features.
You may recall our discussing this last fall on the forum, and on the web-erp-users mail list. I'll "re-open" our old forum thread so we can discuss this further without hijacking this thread (I need to post an updated URL for my draft tutorial anyway).

RE: Sales process - purchase flow
There is no project management functionality - I have spec'd a construction contract/project consisting of multiple webERP contracts at

RE: how to record labor hours spent on a project
@falkoner (and yeah, I'm guessing tags aren't generating notifications), I seem to recall having searched the mail archives before for "timesheet" and not finding anything useful. It would be great if you could find those timesheet files. It would be even greater if you summarized the interface with webERP..... and..... if it's not asking too much..... ;-) technically how much work do you think there is to get the absolute minimum working? Thanks! Dale
@phil, I was hoping you would carry over any new thoughts on doing the best with what there is. I'm still pursuing creating an item with BOM to represent a project, and creating a work order to capture the labor costs of the project as well as any material costs e.g. prototype part purchasing, prototype pcbs, etc.), or maybe create a separate work order for each phase of a project. Are there any reasons why you would prefer a different _existing_ approach, e.g. contracts? Can anyone else add anything?

RE: how to record labor hours spent on a project
Dale,
I have finally summoned the enthusiasm to extend this area. I wrote up a spec at http://www.weberp.org/wiki/ProjectManage...Completion for accounting for projects and % completion accounting.
I started work with an employees table and next stop is timesheet entry. Of course this is would allow labour recording against work orders in general not specifically for the wider project accounting goal. I would be interested in this script of Tim's if it was of any use and your thoughts on how this should work.
I was thinking about using a phone app and importing records, but on reflection it is probably best to have it all in webERP.

RE: how to record labor hours spent on a project
Hi Phil, sorry for my tardy response, I skimmed your spec on the wiki but will review in detail and comment more back here. I don't have a clear vision for timesheets and project management but it looks like a good path to start down.
I searched for the timesheet files from Tim, but although I found later correspondence about the files unfortunately I don't have the files themselves. Tim, if you're listening, could you post the files to this thread?
I agree also with not using a separate timesheet app, but I expect if an organization starts using timesheets in webERP there could be many users who will need _only_ timesheets compared to other webERP features, and perhaps the experience will need to be optimised, e.g. from a timesheet button in the top-menu, to a separate timesheet login and resulting experience, to a complementary stand-alone web app (IMHO creating and maintaining a native timesheet app is probably too much work).
Cheers,
Dale

Hi Dale, here is the patch, I sent it to you on 17/3/2017 if that helps.
The patch isn't mine it was sent to me by Heinrich Steubler (aka Mr Solar) and I take no credit, or responsibility for it

Thanks Tim! :-) Wish I had your filing system.
Phil, if you put preliminary code on a public server I'd be happy to help test.
