workflow entering WO

going top down on the enter WO page, I enter the dates, then the items.

Adding an item to the WO resets the dates previously entered.

So practically, one has to :

1) enter items
2) set dates
3) press update.

That is counter-intuitive and could be called a bug.
Is it possible to change the script such that entering an item does not reset the date?

EDIT:

this works if one:

enters date
press update
enter item
press update.

My secretary will never get this.

Is it possible to rename 'update' to: 'create' until first time pressed?
But even then, if someone thinks first to enter all data, then press create/update, the dates will be lost.
So it would be best to store the dates while items are selected.
