is stockmaster.netweight an obsolete field?
Hi all:

I'm working on the DoFreightCalc function and digging into the code discovered that stockmaster has 2 weight related fields: kgs and netweight.

kgs is used in several scripts and netweight seems a zombi field.

it was added to stockmaster in 3.10 to 3.11 upgrade script
changed to nw in 3.11 to 4.00 upgrade script
still used in the demo and new sql script.

Used only in CopyBOM.php and Z_ChangeStockCode scripts.

Is it really used for anything? Should we get rid of it?

Pak Ricard

Yes I think it was added unnecessarily - I thought I changed it from nw to netweight at one point. But never checked where it was used.

it would make sense to have that field in items: total weight (including packaging, etc, important for shippoing) versus the real world weight of the item.
I just shipped my bicycle in a manufacturer box and the box carried a gross weight and a net weight.

It would be one of the fields which I would call 'informative' - not used for BOM etc., but a good place to look the info up when needed.

Hi all: Klaus is right, IMO.

So, the current kgs can be renamed to grossweight (as it is used in shipment queries), and we can keep the netweight.

Then netweight should be maintained at some point.
