Work Centre Vs Inventory Locations - samudaya - 03-05-2013

Hi Friends,

1) what is the logical different between Work Centre and Inventory Locations?
2) Any relationship between Work Orders and Work Centres?
(My idea is WO should be issued to Work Centres, rather than Inventory Locations)

Thanks

Best Regards
Samu

Hi Samu,

Well, work centres are the places where the work is performed - in a plastics factory you might have work centres for

Moulding machine 1 - X tonne
Moulding machine 2 - Y tonne
Assembly of Z
etc

The inventory location would be the factory as a whole.

The bill of material defines the stock requirements at each work centre.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your quick reply.

Work Orders should be issued to Work Centres, rather than Inventory Locations isn't it ?
(Because there are several work centres can do same task, and how we can identify which Work Centre did it)

Thanks and Best Regards

Well - no the location is the factory/warehouse where the stuff is made - so the work order is on the factory/location - there could potentially be many work centres within a factory.
There is no reporting against work centres created ... yet. Only the work order costing report (I think from memory) showing the issues to each work centre compared to the expected issues from the bill of material(s) for the item(s) being produced.
